Question

derive a relation between force actiong on a body and the acceleration produced

Open in App
Solution

According to Newton's Second Law of Motion the force applied to an object is equal to the rate of change in its momentum. So,

F = dp/dt

now the momentum is given as

p = mv

where m is the mass of the body and v is the velocity

so, we get

F = d(mv)/dt

or

F = md(v)/dt

now as acceleration a = dv/dt, we get

F = ma

which is the required relation
