DESCRIBE ANY FIVE FEATURES OF NAZI MOVEMENT

Open in App
Solution

The following were the main features of the Nazi movement:

  • Emphasis on strident nationalism and racial purity of Aryans, exclusion of all other races and foundation of a lebensraum or living space for German people. This was to be achieved through propaganda that mischievously twisted Darwin's scientific theories related to evolution and tried to duplicate them into social sphere through artificial human intervention.
  • Achievement of full employment through mass production and state funded work creation programme. The demand was fuelled by German war economy.
  • Persecution of minorities that included Jews, communists, gypsies, blacks, etc. At its peak, the persecution resulted in a genocide of Jews in concentration camps that is known as the Holocaust.
  • Aggressive external policy focussed on conquest and occupation of neighbouring countries and restoration of German pride that had been humiliated by defeat in First World War and imposition of provisions of Treaty of Versailles.
  • Focus on indoctrination of children into Nazi ideology by involving them into youth organisations like Jungvolk which glorified Hitler and taught hatred of other groups. Women were exhorted to produce racially pure children through propaganda that created the portrait of an ideal woman.
