It consists of a copper pipe painted black on the outer surface and is curled in the form of a coil. The copper coil is fitted in a box. coiled copper pipe increases the surface area for absorption of solar energy. A tank storing cold water is placed above the heater and another tank is connected to the heater for storage and supply of hot water.

Solar heating device like a solar cooker uses reflector to reflect sunlight to a small area where the cooking container is placed. The light from the sun is actually focused at the container which gets heated thereby cooking the food.
