Essential features proposed by Rutherford :

1)whole positive charge in an atom is concentrated at the center.

2) And the volume occupied by positive charge is much less compared to that of electrons that is negatively charged particle.

Whereas Thomson earlier has said that the negatively charged particles are scattered in a volume of space and the space is positively charged. He explained his model with an apple pie.
