Describe the function of placenta and umbilical cord.
The placenta is an organ found only in mammals during development of foetus. It is made up of cells derived from both mother and foetus.
Umbilical cord connects a foetus to its mother inside the womb. It supplies nutrients including calories, protein, fats and minerals to the baby. It also transfers waste materials and deoxygenated blood from foetus to the mother.
