Solution

Mumps is a highly contagious disease caused by mumps virus. It is characterized by the painful swelling of salivary glands, most frequently parotid glands. The early symptoms are fever, headache, malaise (discomfort or uneasiness), loss of appetite. It spreads through contact with discharge from infected person such as saliva, cough, etc. Its worst symptoms include extremely swollen neck, rashes, inflammation of testicles in males, thyroiditis, deafness, etc. Currently, there is no specific treatment for the mumps i.e. there is no anti-viral medication to treat mumps. However, treatment is given to the mumps patient to provide relief from the symptoms like headache, fever, swollen cheeks, etc.
