Solution

Interphaseinvolves a series of changes that prepare acell for division. It is the period during which the cell experiencesgrowth and DNA replication in an orderly manner. Interphase isdivided into three phases.

(i) G1phase

(ii) Sphase

(iii) G2phase

G1phase – It is the stage duringwhich the cell grows and prepares its DNA for replication. In thisphase, the cell is metabolically active.

Sphase – It is the stage duringwhich DNA synthesis occurs. In this phase, the amount of DNA (percell) doubles, but the chromosome number remains the same.

G2phase – In this phase, the cellcontinues to grow and prepares itself for division. The proteins andRNA required for mitosis are synthesised during this stage.
