Question

difference between fermrntation and glycolysis

Open in App
Solution

Both glycolysis and fermentation involve the breaking down of complex molecules into simpler ones with the release of energy. But the glycolysis is the breakdown of the glucose into pyruvic acid with the release of energy while as fermentation involves the further breakdown of the pyruvic acid into alcohol or lactic acid with the release of energy. Glycolysis takes place in all living organisms while as fermentation occurs mostly in microorganisms like bacteria, yeast etc. and in the muscle cells during heavy exercise.
