Question

Difference between VELOCITY TIME GRAPH & SPEED TIME GRAPH.

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Speed is a scalar quantity i.e. it has only magnitude no direction. So it can only have positive values. Speed-time graph shows the variation of speed of a body w.r.t. time. This kind of graph do not consider direction of the motion i.e. it only takes the straight line motion in the same direction.

Velocity is a vector quantity i.e. it has both magnitude as well as direction. It can be positive, negative and zero. In this graph positive value of velocity shows the forward direction whereas negative value shows the backward direction. Velocity-time graph shows the variation of velocity w.r.t. time and it also indicates the direction of the motion.
