different classes of chordates (animal kingdom)
1. Agnatha: These are jawless, cartilaginous and prey on fish. Ex: Lamprey and hag fish
2. Chondrichthyes: These have jaws and have cartilaginous skeleton but not bone. Ex: shark, rays
3. Osteichthyes: These are the bony fishes and most abundant of all vertebrate classes. Ex: salmon, cod and tuna
4. Amphibia: They can live both on water and land and were the first land vertebrates. Their eggs are without shell embryos must develop in water. Ex: frogs and salamanders.
5. Reptilia: They have scaly skin and their eggs are shelled. They breathe through lungs. Ex: snakes, lizards, tortoises.
6. Aves: They can fly and are light weighted and have wings for the same purpose. They have hard shelled eggs. Ex: birds
7. Mammalia: Most mammals bear young ones and the most characteristic feature is presence of hair all over the body and mammary glands which are used for lactation. Ex: monkey and human beings.
