Differentiate between step growth polymerisation and condensation polymerisation.
Addition polymerization:
1. Polymer is formed in gradual steps.
2. Molecular mass of polymer increases steadily throughout the reaction.
3. Longer reaction times are required to obtain higher molecular mass of polymers.
4. Any two participating species can react.
Chain growth polymerization:
1. Reaction is faster and the polymer is formed in one step.
2. Molecular mass does not change significantly during the course of the reaction.
3. With increase in reaction times yield increases but the molecular weight does not change drastically.
4. Only one repeating unit is added at one time.
