The basic difference between UV and IR radiation is that: Wavelength of UV light lies between 400 nm and 10 nm. And the wavelength of IR light lies between 750 nm and 1 mm.

Other than that UV radiation are highly energetic while IR radiation are low energetic. UV radiation causes cancer when exposed to human. It is also used to kill bacteria in water purification process. IR radiation is also called heat radiation and is used in heating purposes.
