Discuss how extremism is corrosive in nature to our society.
Extremism is corrosive to the society as it undermines the institutions that guarantee the equality of all individuals based on a modern outlook. These institutions are a part of the society. Hence, they cannot be expected to remain outside the purview of the influence on the people. If a society subscribes to fundamental and extremist views and rejects modern and rational views, the institutions would relay this trend in society. This would lead to institutionalization of extremist viewpoints and rejection of liberal outlook. The effect would be visible in the values that the society would inculcate and propagate. This is mostly manifested in the education provided to the younger generation. Thus, it would lead to conflicts as extremism is based on the principle of exclusion i.e. it seeks to create an identity for the society by excluding certain groups rather than incorporating all of them.
