Question

Discuss, in brief, the variation in atmospheric pressure with altitued. Do changes in temperature also casuses a change in atmospeheric pressureDo changes in temperature also casuse a change in atmospeheric pressure ?

Solution

We know pressure is given by, Pressure = (weight or force)/area

Weight (W) is equal to mass (m) times the acceleration due to gravity (g).

W = mg

As height increases the acceleration due to gravity (g) decreases. So, atmosphere pressure decreases with height.

Again, with change in temperature the density (ρ) of air changes.

m = ρV, V is the volume

So, atmospheric pressure changes with change in temperature.
