Question

Do all cells continue to divide in all plants and animals ?

Open in App
Solution

In Plants, the undifferentiated plant tissues such as the permanent tissues are not able to divide (except the parenchyma cells). Only the meristematic tissues continue to divide.

In animals the stem cells of blood, epithelial cells of skin etc are known to divide continuously throughout their life. Many cells in adult animals, such as nerve cells, heart cells and striated muscle cells, do not divide at all.
