Question

Do Ionization Energy follow a regular trend in a period?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Yes! Ionization energy follows a regular trend in a period. Ionization energy increases with the increase in atomic number across the period. Because on going from left to right across a period, atomic size of the element decreases and force of attraction between nucleus and valence electron increases. So large amount of energy is required to release an electron from the valence shell.
