Question

do twins of the same gender but different looks share 100% DNA?

Open in App
Solution

Twins are formed under two conditions:

  • The zygote splits into two zygote sometimes which then form an individual each. These kind of twins are called identical twins.
  • Two ova are produced in the female's body sometimes which are individually fertilized by the two sperms and grow into two individuals each. These kind of twins are called fraternal twins.

So, if the twins are of same gender but different look, they are fraternal twins and their DNA will not be 100% same or identical.
