We cannot separate plastic bag using electromagnets. Like natural magnets, electromagnets also attract only magnetic materials like iron nickel etc. Plastic is a non-magnetic material, i.e., it is not attracted or repelled by the magnetic force. So the electromagnet will not separate it from garbage.
