does applying pressure of a closed system of gas which causes a decrease in the volume that is occupies also cause a rise in its tempreture?

When a gas in an enclosure is compressed i.e., on increasing pressure its volume decreases and work is done on the gas. Thus some heat is produced and its temperature tends to rise. If temperature of the gas is to remain constant, heat produced must be lost to the surrounding.
