Carbon dioxide does contain oxygen. The chemical formula of carbon dioxide is CO₂, indicating that each molecule of carbon dioxide contains two atoms of oxygen. This gas is released when a substance containing carbon is burnt in sufficient supply of oxygen. Secondly, carbon dioxide is a very stable gas. Hence it will not decompose to carbon and oxygen.
