No, the depressions and cyclones do not mean the same thing. They can be differentiated as;
Depressions Cyclones
  1. A depression is defined as an area where the atmosphere observes lower pressures than those of the surrounding area at the same level.
Cyclones are low pressure winds that move in circular movements from the centre with winds flowing in a circular manner.
  1. Wind strength is less than 38 miles/hr.
Wind strength may be 74 to more than 200 miles/hr.
  1. Do not cause much destruction.
These are highly devastating winds.
