Question

Does the moon also attaracts earth in very very very small amount because according to second law of motion, if earth is attaracting it then, it must also attaract earth.

Solution

The gravitational force of attraction between the earth and the moon is, F = GMeMm/r2

Me is the mass of earth and Mm is the mass of moon and r is the distance between earth and moon.

So, the moon attracts the earth with the same force with which the earth attracts the moon. This is also according to Newton’s Third Law of motion.

Since, the mass of the earth is very large compared to the mass of the moon so the acceleration of the earth is very small compared to the acceleration of the moon. Hence, we observe only the moon revolving around the earth.
