doesnt zinc being a metal react with oxygen and moisture in air to form rust and hence corrode? how does a coating of zinc help in prevention of rusting in iron?

Hi,

Zinc is also a reactive metal and it also corrodes alike iron and this property of zinc is used to protect iron from corrosion as zinc corrodes in place of iron and thus protect iron and itself is eaten away.
