During germination of pollen grains, if generative cells are destroyed by laser beam, even then normal growth of pollen tube continues. Why?
A pollen tube emerges from one of the pores (pits) in the wall of the pollen grain and grows rapidly down the style to the ovary. Its growth is controlled by the tube nucleus of the pollen grain, which is found at the growing tip of the tube. The growth of pollen tube is independent of the generative nucleus.
