during lightning the clouds become negatively charged at the bottom and postively charged at the top. the ground is also positively charged. but charge flows from the positive to the negative side so why doesn't lightning flow from the ground to the sky?
Lightning can be thought of as the discharge of charged particles due to static electricity building up in the atmosphere.
The electricity travels from the negative charge region to the positive charge region. That's why during lightening charges flow from sky to ground
