Question

each carbon oxygen bond co2 molecule is polar, but the molecule is itself is non polar. give reason

Open in App
Solution

. CO2 is non polar molecule although it contains polar C-O bonds. This is because of the symmetrical linear structure of CO2 (O=C=O), the strength of polarity of each C-O bond being same and in opposite direction the polar bonds cancel the effect of each other, thus give rise to non polar molecule.
