Question

Elements with higher electronegetivity are good oxidising agents. Why?

Open in App
Solution

During oxidation an element loses electrons and the electronegativity defines the electron attracting power of an atom towards itself. Thus elements which are highly electronegative can oxidise other atoms or elements to gain electrons .Thus fluorine which is highly electronegative is a strong oxidising agent and easily oxidises other atoms/elements.
