Elements Xand Y form a compound by combining in the ratio 1:2 by mass.If their relative atomic mass are in ratio 2:1,then find the simplest ratio in which they combine?

1 : 2 ( mass)

2: 1 ( relative mass)

Total mass = 3 x

X= 33.3%

Y = 66.6%

33.3 / 2 x , (33.3 / 2 x ) x (2x/33.3)= 1

66.6/x , ( 66.6/x )/(x/66.6) = 2

So, formula will be XY2 hence ratio will be 1:2.
