Solution

When a spacecraft enters asteroid belt, there is hardly any effect on the spacecraft.
The asteroid belt is very sparsely populated and there is lot of space between these asteroids. The chances of colliding a spacecraft with an asteroid are one in a billion. In fact when we determine that the asteroid is about to hit earth, we target a spacecraft into the asteroid belt in such a way that its collision with earth is avoided.
