Ethanol when reacts with carboxylic acid in presence of sulphuric acid, it produces a sweet smelling compound i.e. ester, This reaction is known as esterification reaction. ​
The general equation for the above reaction is as follow:-
R-COOH + R'-OH -----(H2SO4)----> RCOOR + H2O.
Where R and R' are two alkyl groups which may or may not be same.
