The gene is the functional unit of DNA. The gene has a specific arrangement of nucleotide sequences i.e. adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine in the form of triplet codons. The gene forms messenger RNA (mRNA) by the process of transcription. This mRNA encodes the triplets into a chain of amino acids which is called as protein. This encoding is done by the process of translation. Proteins control the characteristics through the expression of DNA. The DNA transcribes into mRNA which codes for proteins.
