1. electrovalent compounds have higher melting and boiling points.

2. electrovalent compounds dissolve in water whereas covalent compounds do not.

Solution

1) The ions in the electrovalent compounds are held together by strong electrostatic force of attraction due to which a considerable amount of energy is needed to break their crystal lattice.Hence, electrovalent compounds have higher melting and boiling points.

2) Electrovalent compounds ionize or dissociate into constituent ions in water and thus are soluble in water whereas covalent compounds donot dissociate into ions since these compounds contain neutral molecules and thus are insoluble in water.
