Explain role of sun in soil formation?

During the day time the the rocks are heated up by the sun causing them to expand. Where as during the nigh time they cool down and thus they contract. Since all parts of the rocks do not expand and contract at the same rate,it results in cracking of rocks breaking it to smaller pieces.
