Question

explain steps of germination

Open in App
Solution

Germination is the process that leads to the growth phase from the resting phase. This process results in the emergence of seedling from the seed.

Process of germination

The seed needs some special conditions like water, temperature, light, oxygen to germinate. Once these conditions are provided, the first step in the process of seed germination starts i.e the absorption of the water. This activates an enzymes in the seed which increase rate of respiration and other metabolic reaction and cells of the embryo start dividing. Soon the embryo becomes too large, the seed coat bursts open and the growing plant emerges. First the root emerges from the radicle of the embryo and it anchors the seed in place, and allows the embryo to absorb water and nutrients from the surrounding soil. After that shoot starts growing from plumule and the new plant is produced.
