The Vienna Congress met in 1815 to maintain a balance of power. Delegates from Russia, Britain, Prussia and Austria were hosted by the Austrian Chancellor Duke Metternich to curb the growing power of France and maintain a status quo in Europe by keeping out imperialistic forces. The territories annexed by France after the Napoleonic wars were freed and many states were set up along the boundary of France to keep French power from expanding. The main aim was to restore monarchies thrown out of power by Napoleon as a result of his conquests.The Bourbon dynasty that was overthrown by the french revolution was restored. The many states that are set up were

  1. Netherland included Belgium and Genoa was given to Peidmont.
  2. The Germany confederacy of 39 states was not disturbed.
  3. Northern parts of Italy was placed under the control of Austria.
  4. Russia gained control over Poland.
  5. Saxony came under Prussia.
