Land use pattern in India: According to the Agricultural statistics at glance 2003: Dept of agriculture and cooperation, Ministry of agriculture, Govt. of India: Small farmers own 36 per cent of cultivated area but they themselves comprise 80 per cent of the total number of farmers. The medium and big farmers comprise 20 per cent of the total number of farmers but they own 64 per cent of the total cultivated area.
