Question

explain the process of polymerisationof a amino acids to form poly peptides.

Open in App
Solution

  • The process of polymerization of amino acids to form polypeptide is called translation.
  • This is the last stage of protein synthesis.
  • Ribosome is a cell organelle which acts as the factory of protein synthesis.
  • It contains tRNA and several proteins. Ribosome has two sub units – small and large.
  • When the small unit of ribosome gets attached to the mRNA (messenger RNA), protein synthesis starts.
  • The ribosome gradually proceeds through the mRNA and forms amino acids by forming complementary base pairs with the anticodons of tRNA.
  • Along the mRNA, the ribosome moves from one codon to another and amino acids are adding subsequently till the ribosome reaches to the stop codon.
  • Here, the process of protein synthesis terminates.
  • The amino acids attached to each other form polypeptide and come out of the ribosome.
