Question

explain the relationship between biotic potential and environment resistant

Open in App
Solution

Biotic potential can be defined as the maximum reproductive capacity of an organism, when all the optimum conditions are present. In nature, generally all the optimal conditions necessary for the achieving the maximum reproductive rate are not present at the same time. So, due to environmental factors, the full expression of biotic potential is restricted. This is known as environmental resistance. Environmental resistance may occur due to various factors like climatic conditions, diseases, presence and absence of light, etc. Each of these factors can restrict the expression of biotic potential and hence act as the controls for limiting the growth of organisms.
