Electric potential is defined as the work required to transfer a unit positive electric charge, from an infinite distance to a given point against an electric field. The SI unit for potential is VOLT.

Potential difference is the difference in electric potential between any two points in an electric field or in a circuit. Since it is a difference between two potentials, it's SI unit will be the same i.e. VOLT.
