Question

Explain why some leaves get detached from a tree if we vigorously shake its branch.

Open in App
Solution

Leaves remain attached to the plants in a portion called middle lamellae which hold the leaves by an adhesive force. In a tree there are some new leaves and some are old. As the leaves grow older they become dry, pale and the adhesive force starts decreasing. So when we shake a tree, not all leaves fall at a time. Only the leaves that are almost dried and pretty older get detached easily. But it is difficult to shade new and young leaves by shaking a tree.
