Question

explain why wind pollinated flowers may lack petals or have very small petals

Open in App
Solution

Wind pollinated flowers may lack petals or have very small petals because in wind pollinated flowers the pollens are carried from one plant to another plant by wind and there is no need to attract and bring the pollinators at the surface of flowers for pollination. Petals serve as the attractors for bringing various insects and bees with pollens to carry out pollination on flowers, since there is no such requirement in wind pollinated flowers a selection has acted against the large petals or petals at all. Additionally it’s easy for wind to pollinate small flowers as compared to large flowers with petals or large petals.
