The heating effect of electric current has many advantages. It replaces traditional use of fuel for heating. We are making use of this in electric iron, room heater, water heater etc.

The main disadvantage of heating effect of electric current is the wastage of energy. When current passes through long conductors, a portion of energy is wasted as the form of heat. Also, in case of incandescent lamps, only a part of electricity is converted into light, another part is wasted as heat, which is unwanted.
