find three consecutive even numbers such that the sum of the first and the last numbers exceeds the second number by 10.
ans fast with method
Dear Student!
Let the three consecutive even numbers be x, x + 2 and x + 4.
Given, x + (x + 4) = (x + 2) + 10
∴ 2x + 4 = x + 12
⇒ 2x – x = 12 – 4 (Transposing x on the LHS and 4 on the RHS)
⇒ x = 8
x + 2 = 8 + 2 = 10
x + 4 = 8 + 4 = 12
Thus, the three consecutive even numbers are 8, 10 and 12.
Cheers!
