Question

find three consecutive even numbers where the middle integer is equal to the sum of the first and third integer

Open in App
Solution

Let the three consecutive even numbers be x, x + 2 and x + 4.

Given: x + (x + 4) = (x + 2)

∴ 2x + 4 = x + 2

⇒ 2x x =2 – 4

[Transposing x on the LHS and 4 on the RHS]

x = -2

x + 2=-2+2=0

x + 4=-2+4=2

Thus, the three consecutive even numbers are -2 ,0 and 2.
