Solution

In lower organisms like amoeba, paramecium etc. cell division is itself a mode of reproduction as a single cell divides and forms new organisms. But in higher multicellular organisms sexual reproduction takes place which involves fusion of male and female gametes. It is the most important step of sexual reproduction. Cell division results in growth of an organism and formation of gametes but fusion cannot be done by cell division. Mating of male and female gametes is required for fusion. Thus cell division cannot be a type of reproduction in higher multicellular organisms.
