Question

for a person sitting near fire, why the objects like trees and houses on the other side of the fire appear SHIFTING??

Open in App
Solution

The air just above the fire becomes hotter. The hotter air is lighter and less dense than the cooler air and has the refractive index less than the air.Since the refractive index is changed so the apparent position of the object as seen through the hot air seems to be moving.
