for ionisation energy why does an atom need to be in gaseous state?

In gaseous state there is minimum attraction between the an atoms and its surrounding atoms. In this way the energy supplied to the atom is not used up for overcoming these attractive forces and is directly used for elimination of electron from the outermost orbit of atom only.
