For the conditions of electroplating why does the electrolyte must contain ions of the metal to be electroplated.

In electroplating the ions of one metal are electrically deposited on to another, this is possible only when the ions of the metal which is to be deposited are in solution as they have to migrate and reach the surface of other metal and get reduced.
