Question

For the reaction

N2 (g) + 3H2 (g) ------2 NH3 (g),Kp = 51

Find the value of Kp for the reaction

2 NH3 (g) ------ N2(g) + 3H2 (g)

Solution

For the reaction

N2 (g) + 3H2 (g) ------2 NH3 (g),Kp = 51

Now new reaction is reverse of the above. Thus according to the rule of equilibrium if reaction is reversed the Kp value go into the denominator.

2 NH3 (g) ------ N2(g) + 3H2 (g)

Kp(new ) = 1/51 = 0.0196 Answer.
