For what reason did Japan attack US naval base Pearl Harbour?

The attack by Japan on Pearl harbour was intended to prevent the US army from interfering with Japan's interests in south east Asia. Japan was on the opposition's side of the Allies. She was planning a military action on the south east colonies of United Kingdom. Hence, in order to keep US away from her military actions, she attacked US naval base in Pearl Harbour .
